Ideas for seeing your life a little more clearly

Sometimes clarity comes through a conversation. Sometimes something you read puts language around an experience you have been unable to name. Sometimes a question follows you around for three days and quietly changes what you can see.

Explore is where the ideas behind Deep Exhale live and develop. You can read, listen, or take something into your own life and see what happens.

Read essays and Notes

The essays and Notes on Substack explore the ordinary and not-so-ordinary moments in which we lose sight of ourselves, discover something we did not know we knew, or begin to see an old situation differently.

I write about clarity, awareness, choice, change, uncertainty, relationships, identity, the body, attention, self-trust and the endlessly fascinating business of being human.

Some pieces go deep. Some are a few paragraphs long. All of them begin with something that has caught my attention and seems worth looking at more closely.

Listen to The Deep Exhale Podcast

The podcast is another way into the same inquiry, through conversation and spoken reflection.

These are episodes for walks, drives, cups of coffee and those moments when you want something more interesting than background noise but do not particularly want somebody shouting instructions at you.

Listen when a subject catches your attention, and take whatever is useful with you.

Explore the Practices

Sometimes reading about an idea is enough. Sometimes you want to take it into your own life.

The Practices are self-guided explorations designed for real questions, patterns and moments of uncertainty. They give you somewhere to slow things down, notice more of what is happening and discover what becomes clearer when you stop trying to force an immediate answer.

You can work through them privately, in your own time, and return whenever something feels worth exploring more deeply.
